Roy Real Estate

Roy, Washington

Roy, Washington, named after the son of founder James McNaught, is 35 miles from Olympia, and 23 miles from Tacoma. It is east of Joint Base Lewis-McChord in South Pierce County. Roy is a blend of past and present, which makes living here a sublime balance of modern convenience and tranquility.

Before the Great Depression, Roy was a train stop, a merchant center, and home to military personnel at the Army and Air Force bases. A fire destroyed most of the town in 1929, and then the train lines diverted to Tacoma, leaving Roy to reinvent itself without industrial backing.

Today, Roy is a suburb of Tacoma, with an award-winning school system, easy access to larger cities, and retains its charm from the early pioneer days.

Living in Roy

Agriculture is the primary industry, including Silvaseed Company Foresters, a tree seed, and seedling farm. This establishment has a 125-year presence in Roy, a true heritage of pioneer determination. Silvaseed harvests over a dozen varieties of evergreen tree seed through cone collection and greenhouse growing. The company works with forestry services throughout Washington and neighboring states to replenish sustainable forests.

Wilcox Farm also has a century-long history in Roy. The Wilcox family started a chicken farm in the early 1900s and is still going strong today. The fourth generation of Wilcox family members converted the traditional broiler house operation into an organic, cage-free egg producing enterprise. They, too employ our Roy neighbors as well as welcome tour groups and individuals to their family farm.

Fishing is a favorite pastime in Roy. Anglers throw out lines in hopes of catching Salmon, trout, bass or catfish, as they are plentiful in our lakes and streams.

Roy Pioneer Rodeo is what most people think of when our town comes up in conversation. Professional and amateur rodeo athletes compete for trophies in bareback riding, steer wrestling, and barrel racing, along with Bronco riding and other equestrian categories.

The Old General Store Steakhouse and Saloon accommodates more bridal parties than shootouts these days. The historic building welcomes guests and their celebrations to absorb the ambiance of a refined version of the Wild West.

Roy Tavern is a frequent stop for thirsty travelers cruising through town, often on two-wheeled transportation. This fun time hotspot is a landmark in Roy.
