Living in Graham

Graham is a census-designated place outside of Tacoma, Washington. The community got its name from Mr. Smith Graham, a manager of the logging industry who was the person responsible for retrieving mail off the train that chugged through the area.

Our residents have the Graham-Kapowsin Community Council, a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 1997 to create a community center for our neighbors in Graham. The council’s calendar includes self-improvement classes, social activities, and educational programs throughout the year. They also sponsor the Community Exposition, which happens on the first Saturday in March every year.

The Expo is a chance for vendors, artist, performers and friends to congregate and help raise money for the council’s efforts. Proceeds assist the continuation of:

Frontier Park, 71 acres of recreation and the site of the Pierce County Fair, Highland Games, equestrian shows, scouting events, and car shows, is a big attraction. The playground is 5,800 square feet, featuring slides, talk tubes, a tunnel, overhead ladders, bridges, crow’s nest, swings, and a climbing wall.

Movies in the park during summer months offer families and friends a night of free entertainment in a beautiful setting.

Pierce County Library system has a Graham branch that provides specialty education along with reading materials. Microsoft Office Specialist classes help prepare professionals seeking the certification to understand the subject matter and prepare for the exam.

The library also conducts a Puppet Theatre for middle school-age audience members as they recreate classic tales through skits.

WorkSource employment experts hold seminars at the library to help aid those in search of the next chapter of their career story by creating effective resumes, cover letters, and digital communication.
